The Lionel name is an American classic when it comes to electric train sets. I will always remember the Lionel electric train set that my cousin had as it rolled around his living room. Lionel train notability is as famous as Cocoa Cola.
Lionel electric trains can move with precision and speed. And although the Lionel train set can be somewhat challenging to assemble for some novice and young conductors, that is all part of the fun. When my cousin put his train set together for the first time, it took a couple of hours but it got easier and easier each time. Now he is older and puts the train set out to be placed around the holiday tree.
A big plus about the Lionel model is that because of its transformer technology, the train can continue to go at a strong pace should the transformer fail.
The train tracks that come with the Lionel electric set are very authentic looking, despite the fact that unlike real train tracks they can disconnect and reconnect in a fairly easy manner. The trains, their cars, the tracks and sometimes an entire village are very authentic and can become a collector's item. The surrounding train settings are often done with themes from history.
The general price of around four hundred dollars for the entire Lionel electric train set may not be affordable for some but you may be able to find a better price online or from some discount retailers. Prices range from very low which is usually a small plastic train with very few tracks to a very elaborate set that can run over a thousand dollars. Some collectible Lionel sets can run even higher.
The price for a Lionel train set may generally be higher than its major competitors, Bachmann and Life a Like, because the Lionel set offers considerably more accessories.
Some representative prices of Lionel electric locomotives are:
1. Lionel 7-11022 G Gauge Polar Express Train - $99
2. Lionel 6-31960 O Scale The Polar Express - $219
3. Lionel 6-30089 O Scale Pennsylvania - $145
4. Lionel 6-30103 O Scale New York Central - $196
5. Lionel 6-30069 Thomas The Tank O - $149
Electric train sets are a guaranteed treat for any young guys or gals present. If you choose to purchase a Lionel set, it will most likely last a life time and be passed down to the next generation.

Sandra Tiffany was so impressed with a Lionel electric train set owned by her cousin that she established this site to let others learn about Lionel, different Lionel models and their prices, Lionel competitors and their train sets, Thomas the Train, train tickets, the LIRR schedule, articles and "Deal of the Day" opportunities.
