The possibility of a home invasion concerns many homeowners in today's high crime environment. As a consequence, home security alarm systems have become a popular and prudent addition to one's home. Technically, home security alarm systems can either be identified as hardwired or wireless. They can also, however, be categorized by their features. Wireless trends are evolving to be price effective and in some cases are preferable.

A central feature in any home security alarm system is the burglar alarm. This type of system involves motion detectors and window and door sensors. When these sensor/detectors are tripped, a signal is sent to a main control panel that either sets off a loud alarm, turns on flood lights or notifies the police or your security company that there has been a breach of the premises. Burglar alarms are controlled by a centrally located keypad. They also include security signs that attach to windows and doors to warn off any possible intruders. You may receive a discount on your home owners insurance once you install a fire and burglar alarm system.

Crime is not the only threat to home security. In addition to "home break-ins" another popular security device that protects you against fire and smoke in the house, is the smoke alarm system. It involves a series of hardwired or wireless smoke detectors. It may also include strobe lights. A homeowner can also take fire protection one step further by installing a complete fire alarm system with heat detectors, smoke detectors, and an in-home sprinkler system.

Another security alarm system protects against leaks, even those that are normally undetected, in order to avoid expensive property damage. Critical alarm systems can monitor your heating and plumbing while you are away from your home. These systems will notify your security company, if a pipe bursts or if your heating system goes out in the dead of winter. You don't want to come home from a vacation and find water running down the road from a broken water pipe.

Finally, a medical alarm system provides an emergency button on your home security alarm system keypad. This button alerts your security company that help is needed. If you have an elderly parent and you want to know they are being monitored, this is an excellent system to consider. There are also standalone systems with an emergency button that the homeowner can wear around the neck.

Security systems for the home have become a way of life. Feel safe at night and save money on your home owners insurance.
