Cell phone or mobile phone technology can be overwhelming. For example, what does 3G or 4G mean and what is the difference between the two? At first I thought, the terminology was a bunch of marketing hype, but it turns out to be significant if you are planning on using phone applications, using your word processor, sending large files or taking and sending high resolution pictures.
Here's a simple readable explanation of "G":
1. The "G" stands for generation.
2. The screen size does not change between 3G and 4G.
3. 4G is usually faster.
4. 4G is better for data transmission and offers higher resolution.
5. 4G is better for video conferencing and on line multi game players.
6. Ask your cell phone carrier if their network supports either 3G or 4 G.
The list is pretty basic and easy to understand. It discounts all the promotional advertising.
Some other considerations when upgrading your phone can be how you use your phone. For example: a business person that does a great deal of texting may want to use the Blackberry. The Blackberry phone has a keyboard that is large enough to use for a man's hand size yet still small to accommodate the size of a pocket phone. Blackberry also has better document retrieval and word processing functions. The screen size is a bit small however.
If you want to take pictures, videos and use different types of applications like GPS, social media and other features business people may not use, the Apple iPhone would be a good choice. Apple has the most applications on the market and some of them are very useful. The screen size is large for viewing pictures.
The new Motorola Droid phones are in direct competition with the Apple iPhone. They have some of the useful features the Blackberry has for business. The Droid is becoming the choice phone for active business people.
The Droid, Blackberry and iPhone technology is complimented by the newest introduction of the tablets. A friend has a Motorola pad and Droid phone. She took a picture with her Droid phone but wanted to view it on the Motorola pad. She simply took the memory stick out of her phone and plugged it into the pad and was able to view her pictures on a tablet's larger screen. That is one of the ways the phone and tablet compliment each other.
Apple introduced the first iPad tablet and its applications were more like a laptop and less like a phone. The second generation has included some phone functions.
The world is moving toward more and more use of the cell/mobile phones and tablets. You will see the tablets serving as a PC and phone very soon.
The latest "cloud technology" uses the tablet and phones as a PC or viewing device. The next generation phone will be a replacement for your PC. One will be able to view their home through a home security camera, see your wife or husband while talking with them on the phone, and start your car with a push a button on your cell phone.
The top mobile phones are Apple's iPhone and Motrola's Droid. In head-to-head tests the iPhone comes out slightly ahead, especially in data-speed and voice-quality. Tablet computers, spurred by Apple's iPad, are quickly becoming a new source of voice communication. The new VoIP app allows you to basically use your iPad as an iPhone.
If you do not wish to be locked into purchasing a next generation phone from any particular carrier you can purchase an "unlocked" phone. You will have to purchase a SIM card and have a device number for the carrier.
One thing is for sure. A phone is no longer just a phone.
